People welcomed the new year with operas

www.chinanews.cn 2006-02-03 15:24:10

As rural citizens in Henan's Qinyang City are big fans of local operas
such as Huaiqing Bangzi, Yu opera, Qu opera, they follow the custom of
staging operas during month of Chinese New Year in lunar calendar since
ancient times. During that month, scenes of operas can be seen everywhere
in urban and rural Qinyang. The performers on the stage are acting
seriously while the audience are watching intently and fascinatedly,
becoming an attractive scenic backdrop in the month of Chinese New Year.
During the eight days from the third to tenth days in Chinese New Year,
villagers from Ziling Village will have a chance to enjoy 16 dramas
performed by drama troupes from Xinxiang and Luoyang.
