Chinese males value marriage and family

Chinanews, Sept. 12 - "People say married men are happy, but who knows
the hardship of raising a family?" This catchword widely spread in early
days shows the steadfast authoritative position of the traditional
marital and familial concept of "husband works and wife stays home" in
the modern society. With constantly rising social and economic status,
however, females gradually enhance their consciousness of independence,
beginning to divert from "seeking fortune from marriage" to "seeking
development from career". Thereby, the traditional marital and familial
concept has changed.
Horizon Research Group conducted a survey on 1,888 permanent residents 18
to 60 in age in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Shenyang
and Xi'an, showing that marriage and family have gradually become the
core value of modern males, while in females' mind, health of their
family members is the most important and a happy family is the greatest
pride.
First impressions make many people think that career is the core value of
males. But the survey indicates that marriage and family has become the
most important part of a man's life. Asked what is the most important
thing in life, 13.3% of the surveyed males chose "family members are
healthy", followed by "have a good wife" (10.7%). 10.6% picked career and
10.4% chose "happy family."
The survey targeting females finds that although modern females can hold
up half the sky, they attach the most importance to their family. In
their mind, the most important and precious thing is the health of their
family members and the most proud thing is a happy family.
As family and marriage remain the most important things for both male and
female, the traditional value of family and peace is still dominating in
China.
